Condolences

Carrol J. Ziegler

     Carrol J. Ziegler, 93, of Sparta, died Friday, February 8, 2008 at Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta. He was born on September 4, 1914 on St. Mary’s Ridge, Monroe County, WI to William H. and Frances (Schaller) Ziegler. He grew up in Pleasant Valley.

     Carrol worked for area farmers and also worked on the family farm. He married Elinor Foth on September 26, 1942 at Zion Evangelical Church, Sparta. After marriage, they purchased Elinor’s father’s farm in Coles Valley. Together they farmed until his retirement in 1976. Carrol enjoyed fishing, music, playing the violin, baseball, and sports. He was a board member for the Sparta Produce Exchange, a member of the United Methodist Church in Sparta, and a member of the Men’s Friday Morning Coffee Group at the Sparta Grill.

     Carrol is survived by his wife, Elinor of Sparta; his children, Nancy (Don) Hensel of Gaithersburg, MD, William Ziegler of Menomonie, WI, and Connie Ziegler of Milwaukee, WI; his grandchildren, Michelle (Ritte) Chauprasert, Brian Hensel, Katherine (Anthony) Tang, and Jared Ziegler; great grandchildren, Elana, Alisha, and Jack; a sister, Virginia (Merlin) Kruger of Harpers Ferry, IA; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Milburn, Kenneth, and William; and a sister, Fern Weiss.

     Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Sparta, with Reverend David Carlson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Sparta.

     Family and friends are invited to call at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Memorials are preferred and may be given to Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta and/or the Sparta United Methodist Church.
