Condolences

Virginia A. Jackson

     Virginia A. Jackson, 95, of Tomah and formerly of Sparta, died Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at Cranberry Court in Tomah. She was born on October 25, 1912 in the Town of Little Falls, Monroe County, Wisconsin to Scott and Anna (Ninneman) Edwards. She was baptized on December 19, 1912 at Peace Lutheran Church, Prinz Creek by Reverend H.W. Schmelting. Her sponsors were Doris Ninneman and Leo Zillmer.

     Virginia was confirmed in the Christian faith on April 5, 1925 by Reverend Arthur Berg at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Sparta.

      Virginia married Garland M. Jackson on August 27, 1932 at Galena, IL. They lived on the family farm south of Sparta until 1971 when they moved to their home in Sparta. She was employed at Schultz Brothers for five years and at Sears Roebuck for 15 years. Garland and Virginia purchased the Montgomery Ward Agency where they worked together until retiring.

     She was a faithful member of St. John’s all her life and a member of the Ladies Aid for over 65 years, serving on many committees.

     She was a former member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Women’s Business and Professional Club.

     She is survived by two sons, Richard (Marilyn) Jackson of Baraboo, WI, Robert (Diana) Jackson of Tomah; a daughter, Judith (Knut) Simonson of Cranberry Twp., PA; ten grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Trudi Edwards of Reedsburg, WI; many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, Garland in 1993; her parents; five brothers, Spencer, who passed away as a small child, Ervin, Ernest, Harlan, and Wilmer Edwards; one sister, Dorothy Dimoree.

     Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Sparta with Reverend Mark Wessel officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Cemetery.

     Friends may call at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta on Sunday from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

     The Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
