Condolences

Engvold "Bill" W. Vian

     Engvold “Bill” W. Vian, 85, of Sparta, loving father, step-father, grandfather of many, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at his home. He was born on October 22, 1922 in Galesville, WI to Louis and Emma (Johnson) Vian.

     He married Evelyn Cornell in Waukon, IA on May 25, 1950. They moved to Milwaukee, WI where he worked for American Motors until he retired in 1983. They moved back to Sparta and he worked part-time for the West Salem School District.

     Bill loved the outdoors and was always working on something, he was a real handyman.

He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.  Although Bill will be deeply missed, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.

     Bill is survived by his sons, William (Carol) Vian of Milwaukee, WI, Jeffery (Linda) Vian of Sparta, WI; step-children, Virginia Koch of Caledonia, WI, Ann Elliott of Germantown,WI,  Harry Schumacher of Milwaukee, WI,  Margaret (Ted) Shaw of Wales, WI; his brothers, Eugene (Helen) Vian of Sparta and Donald (Aletha) Vian of Norwalk, WI; sisters, Dorothy Kennedy of La Crosse, WI, Joyce (Harlan) Swenson of Cashton, WI, Lilian (Harley) Stark of Sparta, WI, and Francis (Joe) Bjerkos of Sparta, WI; 20 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 18 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn; 4 brothers, Walter, Henry, Harold, Louis; a sister, Nancy; one stepson, Fred.

     Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Lanham-Miller Home, Sparta, with Reverend Scott Harris officiating. Burial will be in Farmer’s Valley Cemetery, rural Sparta at a later time.

     Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of services.

     The Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
