Verlin W. Sommerfeld, 77, of Sparta, died Monday, October 27, 2008 at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center, Sparta. He was born on January 7, 1931 in Wilton, WI to Emil and Laura (Albrecht) Sommerfeld. He grew up in the Wilton area and graduated from Wilton High School.

     Verlin worked on the family farm until 1971 when he moved to Sparta. He had various jobs including furniture stripping, mowing lawns, and shoveling snow. He moved to Time for Ease in Sparta and later became a resident at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center.

     Verlin is survived by his sisters, Helen Herrman of Sparta and Arlis Seitz of Tomah; nieces, Mary (Steve) Aldrich of Sierra Vista, AZ and Jeanne (David) Harris of Lexington, KY; a nephew, William (Mary) Herrman of Sparta; and other relatives.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Laura; brother-in-laws, Harold Seitz and Fred Herrman; a brother, Ervin; and an infant sister.

     Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, with Reverend Mark Wessel officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Wilton.
