Ross E. Scheppa, 35, of Rockland and formerly of Rochester, MN, died Saturday, July 26, 2008 at his home after a long and very courageous battle with cancer. He was born on June 4, 1973 in Sparta, WI to Richard and Carole (Bicknell) Scheppa. He graduated from Sparta High School in 1992. Ross attended WWTC in La Crosse, WI and received his Associates Degree in Restaurant and Food Service Management in 1994. He also attended St. Paul College enrolling in the Dietary Manager’s Program in 2004. Ross worked in numerous food service facilities. He started his food service through HERO Club in High School which employed him at St. Mary’s Hospital in Sparta. His last current job was in Coon Rapids, MN at Epithany Assisted Living Center where he was Dietary Manager of the kitchen. He also cooked every Wednesday night at Faith Lutheran Church for family night which he really enjoyed. He was also a member of the County Youth Program in Coon Rapids to help people with special needs make the transition into employment. Ross loved fishing, camping, and model railroading. He was the youngest member at the age of 12 to join the West Central Model Railroad Club in Sparta and was very active in it again when he returned back to this area. Ross will be truely missed by his family and friends. Ross is survived by his father, Richard Scheppa of Kendall, WI; his mother, Carole (David) Helgesen of Rockland, WI; a sister, Laura Scheppa of La Crosse, WI; step-brother, Jeff (Jana) Helgesen of Coon Valley, WI; 2 nephews, Griffin and Sawyer Helgesen; maternal grandfather, Paul L. Bicknell of Richland Center, WI; step-grandmother, Bernice Helgesen of Sparta; aunts and uncles, David Scheppa of Camp Douglas, Earl (Lynn) Bicknell of Nevada, Vernon (Marleen) Bicknell of Arizona, Barbara Haas of Sparta, Paul (Trish) Bicknell of Richland Center, Glen (Lequeta) Bicknell of Baraboo, and Jeff (Jeanne) Bicknell of Baraboo; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ed and Marita Scheppa; maternal grandmother, Irene Bicknell; step-grandfather, George Helgesen; and an uncle, Wilbert Haas. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Bethany Ev Free Church, La Crosse, with Reverend Dave Hammond and Worship Pastor Greg Childress officiating. Burial will be in Leon Cemetery, Leon. Family and friends are invited to call at Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, on Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of services. The Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
