Roger D. Vieth

     Roger D. Vieth, 86, of Sparta, died Monday, January 9, 2006 at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare, La Crosse. He was born on March 4, 1919 in Sparta to Benjamin and Henrietta (Pfuhl) Vieth. He grew up in the Sparta and Norwalk areas. He then entered the US Army and was part of the battle in Normandy during WWII.

     He married Olive Taylor on July 11, 1946. After the service, he farmed at Fort Mc Coy for 20 years before retiring. He was a member of the American Legion Post 100. Roger enjoyed traveling and camping.

     Roger is survived by his wife, Olive of Sparta; his children, Roy of Madison, Bruce (Jeanne) of Rockford, IL, Scott (Pam) of Sparta, and Todd (Karen) of Cashton; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, James of Sparta, Clifford of Phoenix, AZ, Dwayne (Faith) also of Phoenix, AZ, Clinton of Pierre, SD, Audrey (David) of Iowa, and Wilma Hubbard of West Salem.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael; a grandson, Andrew; and a brother, Richard.

     Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, with Reverend Richard Abernathy officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by VFW Post 2112 will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sparta.

     Family and friends may call at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home on Friday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until time of services.
