Marcella R. Leis, 77, of Sparta died Friday, November 23, 2007 at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center, Sparta. She was born on October 5, 1930 on Fish Creek Ridge, Town of Portland, Monroe County, Wisconsin to Frank and Mina (Job) Weinke. She grew up on Fish Creek Ridge and married Nyle Leis on October 15, 1951 at St. Mary’s Ridge.

     After marriage they lived in Cashton. Marcella worked at the Tobacco Warehouse in Viroqua. They purchased a farm in Big Creek in 1960. They farmed until 1976 when they moved to Sparta. She worked at DeComet and then at Spartek. Marcella worked at Speed’s Bike Shop as a bookkeeper for 12 years.

     She is survived by her husband, Nyle of Sparta; her children, Connie (Gordon) Bakken of Sparta, John Leis of Michigan, Lambert (Pamela) Leis of La Crosse, Milton (Rose) Leis of Sparta; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two brothers, Lawrence (Darlys) Weinke of Centralia, WA, Douglas (Joyce) Weinke of Rockland; three sisters, Elaine (Clare) Schwarz of Sparta, Erma Leis of Sparta and, Edith Webster of Sparta.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren, and two brothers-in-law.

     Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sparta with Father James Leary O.F.M. Cap. officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery.

     Friends may call at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the funeral home on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
