Kenneth "Jiggs" R. Stannard

     Kenneth “Jiggs” R. Stannard, 86, of Sparta died Saturday, August 30, 2008 in his home. He was born on April 21, 1922 in Sparta to Carl and Emma (Yahnke) Stannard. He lived in Sparta until his senior year in high school when they moved to Milwaukee.

     Kenneth joined the U.S. Army he served for a short time and received an honorable discharge. Kenneth then enlisted for the second time on October 14, 1942. He served his country in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, Central Europe, and Air Offensive Europe. He was honorably discharged on October 24, 1945. He was very proud of serving his country.

     After the service Kenneth worked as a welder. He moved back to Sparta to help and care for his mother around the home. He was a member of the Sparta V.F.W. Post 2112.

     He is survived by a son, Ronald (Mary Pat) Ahlf of Racine, WI; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a half sister, Lois (Jon) Luther of Sparta; special friends, Kevin Van Wormer, Brandi LeBlanc, Abigail Morrell, Zachary Van Wormer, and Emma Van Wormer.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold, and Arthur; a sister, and a half brother, Charles.

     Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta with Reverend Richard Abernathy officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by V.F.W. Post 2112 will be in St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Cemetery, Sparta.

     Friends may call at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta on Tuesday from 2 p.m. until the time of services.
