June R. Laxton of Sparta died Friday, July 21, 2006 in her home. She was born in Wilton, Wisconsin to Herman and Ella (Rowe) Miller. She grew up in the Wilton area and graduated from Wilton High School. She married Willard “Bill” Laxton on December 4, 1946. After marriage they lived in Sparta. June worked at the Wisconsin Child Center in Sparta for 30 years and retired from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. June was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, Sparta and was active in the preservation of memories of those who lived at the Wisconsin Child Center. June was also instrumental in the restoration of the Child Center Cemetery. She is survived by a son, Steve (Andrea) Laxton of Sparta, three sisters, Mooneen (Bernard) Waite of Ojibwa, WI, Marjorie (Robert) Bruce of Sparta, Shirley Manning of La Crosse; a sister-in-law, Helen Miller of Sparta; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willard “Bill” on December 6, 2003; five brothers, Earl Hugo, Alvin, Robert, Henry, and a sister, Mae. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 29, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the Congregational United Church of Christ, Sparta with Reverend David McBride officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Sparta. Friends may call at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta on Friday, July 28, 2006 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. The Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. |
