Phyllis A. Johnson, 62, of Sparta, died Friday, August 22, 2008 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. She was born on July 16, 1946 in Sparta to Eli and Verna (Kvistad) Hove. She grew up in the Sparta area.

     Phyllis married Roland E. Johnson on June 20, 1964 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sparta. They lived in Racine, WI before moving back to Sparta in 1978. She worked as a cook for area restaurants in the Sparta area. She enjoyed crafts, fishing, and cooking large meals for her family. She became a resident at the Morrow Memorial Home in 2007.

     Phyllis is survived by her son, Brandon Johnson of Sparta; a grandson, Donovan Johnson of Sparta; her brothers and sisters, Vernon (Mary) Hove of Texas, Jerry (Marlene) Hove of Florida, Barbara (Theodore) Federman of Cataract, Larry (Marie) Hove of Tomah, and Richard (Leslie) Hove of Sparta; and many other relatives and friends.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roland on August 16, 2007; a brother, Eli; a sister, Connie; and twin granddaughters, Brittany Sue and Dakota Paige.

     Memorial graveside services will be Monday at 4 p.m. in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Sparta, with Reverend Jeffrey Wm. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

     The Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, is assisting the family with arrangements.
