Vernon J. Geier, 76, of Sparta died Monday, February 11, 2008 at the Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta. He was born on February 24, 1931 in Pine Hollow in the Town of Jefferson, Monroe County, Wisconsin to William and Applonia (Schreier) Geier. He grew up in the Cashton area and married Carol Jean Bahr in May of 1956. They were later divorced. He farmed in the Cashton area for many years.

     Vernon moved to Sparta in 1986.  He worked at Sparta Manufacturing, and as a school crossing guard. He moved to the Morrow Memorial Home in August of 2003.

     He is survived by his children, Thomas (Carlene) Geier of Coon Valley, Barbara Geier of Sparta, Michael (Pam) Geier of Viroqua, David (Sandi) Geier of Marinette, WI; grandchildren, Brian, Renae, Rudy (Laurie), Valerie (Brandy), Nancy,  Lucas (Angie), Travis (Julie), Amanda, Josh, and Jessalyn; great grandchildren, Dallas, Dakota Jayden, Klayten, Alexis, and Abbigale.; two brothers, Leonard Geier of La Crosse, Clarence (Janice) Geier of  La Crosse; five sisters, Margaret Prestwood of La Crosse, Marie Gabel of La Crosse, Darlene Paulson of Cashton, Lavina Flock of Cashton, Elrita (Clarence) Meyers of Bangor.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lawrence Geier, infant Robert Geier; sisters, Emma Luedke, Eleanor Crook, Rosella Oswald, and a special friend, LeRoy Pfaff.

     Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sparta with Father James Leary O.F.M. Cap. officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery.

     Friends may call at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta on Thursday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.
