Condolences

Floyd H. Peterson

     Floyd H. Peterson, 87, of Sparta, died Saturday, September 23, 2006 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse. He was born on July 20, 1919 in Cashton, WI to Clause and Mary (Nordlee) Peterson. He moved to Sparta as a child and graduated from Sparta High School.

     Floyd worked for Pet Milk Company in Sparta. He then enlisted in the US Army on October 10, 1940. He served during WWII with the 32nd Red Arrow Division, 64th Infantry Brigade. In 1942, he was ordered to Australia and spent several years in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged on November 20, 1944.

     After the service, Floyd moved back to Sparta and worked again for Pet Milk. He married Florence Marquardt on May 23, 1953 in Mukwonago, WI. He then started working for the Park and Recreation Department in Sparta. He worked there until his retirement.

     Floyd was a 53 year member of the VFW Post 2112 and a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, both of Sparta. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and woodworking.

     Floyd is survived by his wife, Florence of Sparta; his children, Linda (Michael) Nivinski of Rockford, IL, Keith (Kathy) Peterson of Sparta, and Mark Peterson of Sparta; 4 grandchildren, Brian (Amy) Kronberg, Brenda (John) Bollig, Pfc Timothy (Shannon) Peterson, and Sara Peterson; 5 great grandchildren, Christa, Katelynn, and Callie Bollig, and Bradley and Benjamin Kronberg.

     Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Raymond; his twin brother, Lloyd; and a grandson, Michael Kronberg.

     Funeral services will be Tuesday at 12 (noon) at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sparta. Burial with full military honors provided by VFW Post 2112 will be in Mt Hope Cemetery, Sparta.

     Family and friends are invited to call at the church from 9 a.m. until time of services.

     The Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, is assisting the family with funeral services.
