Evelyn F. Ziegler

 

     Evelyn F. Ziegler, 92, of Sparta died Saturday, July 29, 2006 at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center, Sparta. She was born on May 29, 1914 in Sparta to George and Bertha ( Leek ) Ziegler.  She was baptized by Reverend Smale and confirmed by Reverend Berg. Her family lived in the Sparta, Tomah and Valley Junction. She was an 8th grade graduate from the Little Creek School. Evelyn cared for infants and children and did house work. She lived in La Crosse and worked at ABC Cleaners and for many years at Autolite. She cared for her parents in LaCrosse, her mother passed away in 1951. After Autolite closed in 1959 she purchased a home in Sparta. Evelyn worked at the Wisconsin Child Center until they closed and last worked for Frank Schmitz, A.C. Heilman, and Don Alexander at the “66” oil branch. She retired and continued to care for her father and aunt. Her father passed away in 1977.

     Eveleyn enjoyed home parties, dances, visiting with people, reading and writing. She also enjoyed people, good neighbors, and friends. She was a member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church.

     She is survived by her sister, Erma (George) Starch of La Crosse; nephews, Floyd, Alvin, LaVerne, Donald, and Eugene, and her sister-in-law, Mabel Ziegler of LaCrosse.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Elmer; nieces, Mary, and Alice.

     Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Sparta with Reverend Mark Wessel officiating. Burial will be in the Big Creek Union Cemetery, rural Sparta.

     Friends may call at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta on Monday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

     The Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
