Effie C. Breitenfield

Effie C. Breitenfield, 88, of Sparta died Sunday, July 23, 2006 at the Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta. She was born on May 21, 1918 in Russell Valley, rural Cashton, Monroe County, Wisconsin to Arndt and Regina (Hagen) Anderson. She was baptized June 23, 1918 and confirmed June 11, 1933 at Portland Lutheran Church, rural Cashton.

     On September 12, 1940 she was united in marriage to Jennings Breitenfield in Waukon, Iowa. They farmed in the Cashton area until 1946 at which time they purchased a farm in East Beaver Creek north of Sparta. After moving to the Sparta area, their church membership was transferred from Portland Lutheran Church to Trinity Lutheran Church in Sparta where she has been a member since. In June of 1980 they moved to Riverside Mobile Home Park in Sparta. Effie entered the Morrow Memorial Home in December 2003. Effie was employed at Rolling Hills Nursing Home for two and one-half years and was a Nursing Assistant at St. Mary’s Hospital for twenty five years. She loved to garden, cook, bake, and go out for fish on Friday nights.

     She is survived by a daughter, JoAnn (Laurel) Brandt of Sparta; two sons, Roger (Julie) Breitenfield of Aurora, IL, LaVern Breitenfield of Sparta; three grandchildren, Karen (Michael) Wanek of North Aurora, IL, Nathan Breitenfield stationed at Robbins Air Force Base, Georgia, Dustin Breitenfield of Sparta; two great grandsons, Alex and Kyle Wanek; a sister-in-law, Esther Leis of Kendall; several nieces, and nephews.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jennings on November 18, 1980, and a sister, Norma.

     Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sparta with Reverend Matthew E. Toso officiating. Burial will be in the Portland Lutheran Cemetery, rural Cashton.

     Friends may call at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

     The Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
