Douglas J. Devine, 61, of Sparta died Saturday, March 18, 2006 in his home. He was born on July 21, 1944 in Sparta to Thoburn and Freda (Emry) Devine. He grew up in Wilton and graduated from Wilton High School in 1962. Doug was a C.N.A. at the Mendota Mental Hospital in Madison. He served in the U.S. Army for two years and was stationed in Germany. He married the former Karen Krall in Janesville, WI on August 3, 1968. After marriage they lived in California where he did his barber training. They moved back to Sparta in 1969. Doug worked as a barber for 10 years. He then dairy farmed for 25 years and then worked as a C.N.A. at the Tomah Veterans Administration Medical Center for four years. He was a member of the Sparta United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Karen of Sparta; a son, David (Carmen Hatfield) Devine of Sparta; three grandsons, Jesiah, Jaequinn, Jaiden; a brother, Leonard (Donna) Devine) of Janesville; four sisters, Lois (George) Newman of Wilton, Clara (Robert) Haldeman of Sparta, Virginia Faulkner of Manitowoc, WI, and Joyce (Richard) Garvoille of Janesville. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Jeremy on February 24, 2005. Memorial services will be Tuesday at 12 noon at the United Methodist Church, Sparta with Reverend David Carlson officiating. Friends may call at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta on Monday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of services. The Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
