Lucile Christenson

     Lucile Christenson, 93, of Sparta died Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at the Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta. She was born on September 6, 1914 in Purdy Valley, Monroe County, Wisconsin to William and Mildred (Haefner) Purdy.

     She grew up and attended Purdy Valley School through the 8th grade. She then attended four years of high school in Tomah. After graduation from high school, she attended one year of teachers training on the fourth floor of the Tomah High School. Lucile taught grade school at Little La Crosse Valley, Tarr Valley, and Fletcher School. Some of her students still remember her as their teacher.

     Lucile married George Christenson on April 19, 1941 in Waukon, IA. To this union their son, Gene, was born. They lived in Purdy Valley until the U.S. Government bought them out to build Camp McCoy. Then they moved to Bush Prairie where they farmed for many years.

     They moved to Sparta where they lived in their home until they both moved to the Morrow Memorial Home in September of 2005.

     Lucile was involved with 4H Clubs in earlier years. She also was involved with and held an office with the American Cancer Society for many years. Lucile loved to dance and play cards, especially bridge. Lucile held an office as a director with the A.C.B.L. Lucille had many friends and people who cared about her. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

     She is survived by a son, Gene (Joanne) Christenson of Bloomington, MN; a grandson, Eric (Teresa) Christenson of Woodbury, MN; a great granddaughter, Ashley Joy Christenson of Woodbury, MN; a sister, Sylvia (Douglas) Christenson of Madison, WI; a sister-in-law, Helen Meyer of Sparta; nephews, Larry Christenson, David, Ronnie, Darrell Meyer; nieces, Susan Williams, and Sandra Lehmann.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Gladys (Earl) Shutter; a nephew, Duane Shutter, and her beloved husband, George Christenson.

     Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta with Reverend Ronald Sherid officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Sparta.

     Friends and family may call at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home on Friday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.

     The Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
