Laurie J. Brooks, 43, of Melvina, died Friday, February 22, 2008 as a result of an automobile accident. She was born on August 2, 1964 in Viroqua to Lars and Pearl (Bakken) Kokkeby. She grew up in the Sparta area and graduated from Sparta High School.

     She worked at Spartek for over 20 years and worked the last three years at Dollar General in Westby. She married Terry Brooks in 1989 in Sparta. She loved cats.

     She is survived by her husband, Terry of Melvina; a step-son, Aaron of Viroqua; 4 brothers, Sid Slominski of Sparta, Terry (Debbie) Slominski of Beloit, WI, Jerry (Mary) Slominski of Omaha NE, Gary Slominski of Omaha, NE; and other relatives and many friends.

     She was preceded in death by her parents.

     Funeral services will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, with Reverend Richard Abernathy officiating. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 p.m. until time of services.

     The Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, is assisting the family with arrangements.
