Glen C. Beard, 89, of Sparta died Thursday, August 14, 2008 at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center, Sparta.  She was born on December 1, 1918 in Savannah, Georgia to Rembert James and Katherine Elizabeth (Minahan) Coney. She grew up in South Carolina.

     She married the Reverend William C. Miller on February 2, 1946 in Columbia, South Carolina.  After marriage they lived in San Francisco, California then in Washington State.  William died while living in Pasco, Washington.

     She then married the Reverend F. LeRoy Beard in July 28, 1973.  After marriage they settled in West Brookfield, Massachusetts. Roy died in North Brookfield, Massachusetts.

     Glen worked as a book representative for Western Publishing in the educational division.  She retired and moved to Sparta in 1997.  She was active at St. John’s Episcopel Church in Sparta.

     She is survived by her daughters, Carroll (Ray Weddleton) Stewart of Somerset, CA and Yuma, AZ, Frances (William) Pierce of Yucca Valley, CA, and Ann (Patrick) Nugent of Sparta; 6 grandchildren, Andrea Osborne, Erik Pierce, Ashley Pierce, Elizabeth Nugent, Patrick Nugent Jr., and Colin Nugent; a great granddaughter, Chloe Osborne; a sister, Frances Coney of Bandon, OR; and a brother, Richard Coney of Sunnyvale, CA.

     In addition to her husbands she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Katherine Corbett, and a brother, Rembert Coney Jr.

     Memorial services will be Sunday, September 7, 2008 at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Sparta with Vicar Leigh Waggoner officiating.

     Memorials may be given to St. John’s Episcopal Church or Sparta Public Education Foundation.
