Alfred “Al” H. Novotne, 52, of Sparta, died Monday, February 13, 2006 at his home. He was born on August 9, 1953 in Harvey, IL to Robert and Aimee (Haines) Novotne. He grew up in Harvey and graduated from Thornton Township High School in 1971. He then attended the University of Chicago and graduated in 1975. He received his law degree in 1981 from De Paul University College of Law and later received his LLM in international law in 1987 from the National Law Center, George Washington University.

     Al spent the last 14 years working as a civilian for the US Army. He first worked at the Pentagon in the US Army Standards of Conduct Office and most recently worked at Fort Mc Coy.

     He married Maureen Guck on February 16, 1990 in Alexandria, VA. They moved to Sparta in 2002. Al enjoyed bike riding.

     He is survived by his wife, Maureen Novotne of Sparta; three children, David, Ian, and Mariah all at home; and a brother, Robert (Holly) Novotne of Beverly Hills, FL.

     He was preceded in death by his parents. 

     Memorial services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, with Linda Anderson officiating.

     Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of services. Memorials may be given to Franciscan Skemp Hospice or the American Brain Tumor Association.
