Condolences

Mildred I. Christopherson

     Mildred I. Christopherson, 90 of Sparta died Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at the Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta. She was born on September 20, 1915 in Monroe County, Wisconsin to Clyde and Clara (Hagen) Richardson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Leon Congregational Church and attended the Leon School for eight years; Sparta High School and then Viroqua Normal. Mildred taught at the Sunny Dale School (which is now Fort McCoy).

     She married Gilmer Christopherson on May 23, 1936. They rented a farm near Cataract for two years then bought a farm in the Random District in the Leon Township. Mildred belonged to the Golden Rule Homemakers in that district for many years. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors and was a member of the Leon Congregational Church. She served on the church board, was a member of the Leon Dorcas and served many offices. She was very faithful with the work and projects that they did.

     They retired from the farm in 1968 and moved to Sparta. Mildred then worked in the deli department in the Jones and Ted and Freds Supermarket. She retired in 1980. They enjoyed traveling and vacations.

     She is survived by two daughters, Karen (Bill) Yahnke of Sparta, Lois Schauf of Sparta; four grandchildren, David (Marie) Schauf of West Salem, Wayne Schauf of Sunol, CA, Karla (Don) Wagner of Sparta, Keith Yahnke of DeForest; seven great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; four nieces and three nephews; many friends, and neighbors.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gilmer on June 24, 2004; a son Charles Douglas; two brothers, Merlin, and Vadis Richardson.

     Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta with Reverend Richard Abernathy officiating. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery, Leon.

     Friends may call at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. and at the funeral home on Monday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

     Memorials may be given to the Morrow Memorial Home or the First Congregational Church of Leon.

     The Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
